Maya: Good morning, Xenia! It's Tuesday, October sixth, twenty twenty-six, and this is the Xenia Morning Briefing. I'm Maya.

Devon: And I'm Devon. Good morning! Fall is settling in across Greene County, and we've got your full week of weather, night skies, and local news coming right up.

Maya: Let's start with the week ahead in weather. Today is a beauty — sunny skies, a high of sixty-seven, and a crisp overnight low of forty-one. Winds are light at eight miles an hour, and there's essentially zero chance of rain.

Devon: Wednesday warms things up — a high of seventy-six, a low of forty-seven, still dry, with winds around thirteen miles an hour.

Maya: Thursday dips back a bit — a high of sixty-nine, a low of fifty-two, with clouds moving in, but only about a one percent chance of rain.

Devon: Friday stays mild — a high of sixty-nine, a low of forty-seven, and completely dry skies.

Maya: Saturday is your warmest day of the week — sunny, a high of eighty-one, a low of fifty-two. A gorgeous October Saturday.

Devon: Then Sunday changes the tune — a high of sixty-seven, a low of fifty-six, rain chances rising to thirty-seven percent, with winds picking up to sixteen miles an hour.

Maya: And Monday keeps some of that unsettled weather — a high of seventy-two, a low of fifty-six, and a thirty-one percent chance of rain.

Devon: So the pattern this week: cool and dry through Friday, a warm Saturday, then showers possible as the weekend closes and the new work week begins. Sunday and Monday are the days to watch.

Maya: Now let's look up. Here's your night sky report for tonight over Xenia.

Devon: The moon is a waning crescent, only about twenty percent lit. It rises around three in the morning and sets in the afternoon — so by evening, the moon is out of the way and the sky is nice and dark.

Maya: After dark, the planet Saturn is your main attraction. You'll find it in the southeast, about thirty-one degrees up, shining with a steady golden glow. Binoculars will sharpen the view nicely.

Devon: The sun sets at seven ten this evening, and truly dark skies arrive by about eight thirty-nine.

Maya: One honest note: no bright International Space Station passes are expected tonight. But dark skies like these make it a fine night to just step outside and take in Saturn hanging over Greene County.

Devon: Time for arts and entertainment around Xenia.

Maya: Friday afternoon brings the Xenia Food Truck Rallies, starting at four o'clock — a good excuse to get outside and sample what local food trucks are serving up.

Devon: And on Saturday, the Greene County Farmers Market returns downtown with fresh produce, handmade crafts, baked goods, and often live music. With Saturday's high near eighty-one, it's a perfect morning to be out browsing.

Maya: Also on Friday evening, there's a Reiki-Infused Sound Journey at seven o'clock at sixty-five South Allison Avenue — an evening of singing bowls and quiet relaxation, if that's your thing.

Devon: Honestly, the listings are a little thin this week. But there's still enough to fill a good weekend, and the weather is cooperating.

Maya: On to local news. And we start at Xenia's school board, where a heated debate is heading for a formal vote. After a lengthy executive session on Monday, the board voted three to two to put a question on the agenda of its October thirteenth meeting: whether to fire three educators over social media posts about the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Devon: The two teachers at the center of the controversy, Kevin Keefe and Jenn Davis, have each been Xenia educators for more than twenty years. Their comments on their personal Facebook pages went viral after being picked up by conservative-leaning social media pages. The district says it received thirty-six messages about the two — most of them calling for the teachers to be fired, though a handful voiced support.

Maya: A third educator, an elementary school librarian who has not been publicly named, also drew the board's attention. Board members Joshua Day, Jeremy Cox, and George Leightenheimer voted to put the question on the agenda, with Mary Grech and Bill Richey dissenting. The move goes against an earlier decision by the district superintendent, who had determined the teachers would keep their jobs. Expect a crowded room on the thirteenth.

Devon: Second story — severe weather swept through the region last week. The Dayton Daily News reports that tornado warnings touched parts of Bellbrook, Xenia, and Cedarville. Strong winds and heavy rain brought down trees and power poles, and thousands of homes and the Dayton Mall were left without power for much of the day.

Maya: The National Weather Service says heavy rains remain in the forecast, with more showers raising the risk of flooding in Southwest Ohio. That lines up with our forecast — watch Sunday and Monday, when rain chances climb above thirty percent. Have more than one way to get weather alerts, and never drive through flooded roads.

Devon: And third — a local race to watch. State Representative Levi Dean, a Republican from Xenia, is seeking reelection to a second term representing Ohio's seventy-first House District, facing Democratic challenger Krista Magaw of Yellow Springs. The district covers parts of Clark and Greene counties, so this contest is right in our backyard.

Maya: That's your Xenia Morning Briefing for Tuesday, October sixth. Cool and dry through the week, a warm Saturday, rain possible Sunday into Monday, Saturn shining in dark evening skies, and a school board decision two weeks out that has the whole county talking.

Devon: We'll be back tomorrow morning at five with a fresh briefing. Have a great Tuesday, Xenia!
